Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha on Thursday launched ‘Gandhi Shanti Yatra’ against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The 3,000 km march was kick-started from Gateway of India in Mumbai and will conclude at Raj Ghat in Delhi on January 30 which is the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Our march is against CAA, NRC and the violence carried out by the government. We will talk to people on our way and will protect Ambedkar’s constitution. We will not let the country be divided. We will not let anyone kill Gandhi again,” said Yashwant Sinha.

Before reaching Delhi, the ‘Gandhi Shanti Yatra’ will cross five states – Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.  Former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha informed that various organisations including farmers will also participate in the march against CAA and NRC.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar flagged off the march from Gateway of India and said that the government is using dictatorial policies.

The government is using dictatorial policies. What happened in JNU is being opposed across the country. The government’s dictatorship needs to be answered with Gandhiji’s way of non-violence,” said Pawar at Gateway of India.

Sinha was also joined by Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar and senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan.
