Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Friday hit out at the poll promise made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar that COVID-19 vaccine will be provided free of cost to all in the eastern state. He said that this indicates the discriminatory nature of the BJP.
While speaking to reporters, Raut said that the move to politicise the COVID-19 vaccine is defaming Narendra Modi’s image. Only those who vote for BJP will get free vaccines, this is cruel, he added.
“Earlier, it was said ‘tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe azadi dunga (give me blood, I’ll give you freedom)’ but now it has become ‘give me vote and I will give you vaccine’. Will the non-BJP states not get free vaccines? Only those who vote for BJP will get vaccines, it shows BJP’s discriminatory nature,” Raut said.
Labelling it as “cruel”, the Shiv Sena leader said that the BJP has promised the same in Madhya Pradesh and it is not right because such promises damage the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I can understand the promises made for providing jobs, houses and food. Our only problem is with the vaccine promise. This shows the discriminatory nature of the BJP,” Raut asserted.
On Thursday, BJP released its manifesto for the Bihar assembly elections which are scheduled to be held in three-phases starting October 28. During her speech, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman promised that people in Bihar will get free COVID-19 vaccine once it is cleared by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
