Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ram Kadam on Thursday wrote to Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh demanding that the Palghar lynching case should be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

He said that more than six months have passed and there has been no satisfactory development in the “Palghar Sadhu Lynching Case”. Kadam demanded that the case should be transferred to CBI.

“This is to bring to your notice that more than six months have elapsed since the occurrence of the horrific lynching incident against sadhus at Palghar. There has been no significant development with respect to the investigation and the main culprits are yet given a free run,” Kadam wrote in his letter.

Kadam said that attack on Hindu sadhus on the land of Maharashtra can’t be tolerated and requested that the case should be handed over the CBI for a more “competent and fair probe”.

His request to transfer the Palghar lynching case comes a day after the Maharashtra government withdrew general consent given to the CBI to probe the case in the state.

The Maharashtra government on Wednesday blocked the CBI from probing any case in Maharashtra without the prior consent of the state or higher judiciary. This means that the CBI will have to take permission to probe any case which falls into the geographical jurisdiction of the state.

Maharashtra becomes the fourth state to withdraw the general consent given to the members of the Delhi Police Establishment. Rajasthan also withdrew the consent this year while West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh withdrew it in 2019.

Reacting to this, Kadam said that the MVA government was afraid of truth to come out and accused it of hiding facts.
