Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should think why its foundation stones are coming off when the party is climbing to success.

His remarks come after veteran leader Eknath Khadse quit the BJP and announced that he will join Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). This comes as a huge blow to the BJP as Khadse has a stronghold in Jalgaon district of northern Maharashtra.

While talking to reports in Osmanabad, Thackeray said that Khadse was welcome to the family of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Along with Gopinath Munde and Pramod Mahajan, Eknath Khadse was also instrumental in strengthening the BJP in Maharashtra.

“When a person like Khadse leaves the party, BJP should definitely think about the reason. We (Shiv Sena) left the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Akali Dal also left the alliance. Now, Khadse has left the BJP,” Thackeray said.

After resigning from the BJP, Khadse blamed Devendra Fadnavis for his resignation. He alleged that the former Chief Minister instructed the police to file a “false” harassment case against him.

“Devendra Fadnavis destroyed my life. I feel sad about quitting the BJP but I have no choice. Fadnavis instructed the police to file a case against me on false allegations of harassment by a woman. I came clean on the corruption charges levelled against me,” Khadse said.

Khadse will be joining the NCP on October 23 in the presence of Sharad Pawar. His dissatisfaction with the state leadership of the BJP intensified after he was denied a ticket in the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly Elections.
