On Thursday, September 22, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari approved the ordinance to restore the OBC reservation in rural bodies.

A few months back, SC had scrapped the OBC quota in local bodies. The Cabinet then announced an ordinance to restore the OBC quota apart from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) reservations.

The Governor had raised some legal points of bringing an ordinance to the notice of the Supreme Court and sent the file back to the government.

The State cabinet revised the proposal and sent it to the Governor for his approval on Wednesday, September 22.

They had also issued another ordinance for urban local bodies apart from SC and ST reservations within the 50% limit.

NCP minister, Chaggan Bhujpal, addressing the situation, said that they are grateful to the Governor for approving the ordinance sent by the Cabinet. He further added that addressing their point, they had sent the proposal back to Raj Bhavan.

They will soon send the ordinance to the Governor, restoring OBC quotas in the urban local bodies, said an official from the urban development department.
