14 out of 25 hostels for maratha students ready; inauguration to be held soon

As of now, hostels for maratha students will be set up at 23 places in the state, of which 14 buildings - one each in Mumbai and Mumbai Suburbs, Pune, Satara, Miraj, Kolhapur, Beed, Latur, Amravati, Nagpur and two each in Nashik and Aurangabad.

The state government of Maharashtra has planned hostels at 14 locations in the state to help the students belonging from the Maratha community. As per reports, the construction has been completed and these will be inaugurated soon by the local Guardian Minister. Information regarding the same was shared by Minister Ashok Chavan at a meeting held at the Sahyadri Guest House on Monday, August 3, 2021.

The meeting was conducted in the presence of the Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Maratha Reservation. Important information was shared post the meeting  where officials said that almost all the demands of the Maratha community are being met and the decisions have been taken by the officials regarding the appointments of Maratha candidates in the government service. Departments have also been directed to expedite the remaining pending issues. 

As of now, hostels for maratha students will be set up at 23 places in the state, of which 14 buildings - one each in Mumbai and Mumbai Suburbs, Pune, Satara, Miraj, Kolhapur, Beed, Latur, Amravati, Nagpur and two each in Nashik and Aurangabadare ready. Instructions have been given to inaugurate them soon.

The Revenue Minister will hold a meeting with the Divisional Commissioner and District Collector to complete the projects soon at the remaining places, said Ashok Chavan. The process of providing space for the Divisional Center and District Center of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Research and Training Institute (Sarthi) has been expedited. Currently, a substation has been started at Kolhapur and the administrative sanction has been given for the construction of Pune headquarters at a cost of INR 42.70 crore. Work on this project is also expected to start soon. 

Through the Sarathi program, guidance classes for competitive examinations, provision of manpower for the institute, talent search examination and the launch of new schemes like scholarships for students of class 9-12  have been started. Issues regarding several other matters will also be resolved soon. 

Officials, as per the demand of Sarathi Sanstha, have provided INR 150 crore for the organization and the funds will be provided soon, as per needs. Besides this, funds are being provided for Annasaheb Patil Economic Corporation and new schemes and will be provided after strategic decisions are taken.

Present at the meeting were members of the sub-committee and Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde. 

Other officials included Manukumar Srivastava - Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Vikas Rastogi - Secretary, Higher and Technical Education Department, Sumant Bhange - Secretary, General Administration Department, Shekhar Channe - Managing Director, ST Corporation, Ashok Kamble - Managing Director, Sarathi, Anil Patil - Managing Director, and Annasaheb Patil - Economic Development Corporation.
