Ideology of Godse still alive: Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik on Jamia shooting incident

A right-wing Hindu nationalist on Thursday shot at a Jamia student protestor during a peaceful protest march against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The Jamia students have been protesting since December 15.

In the light of recent hate-crime against anti-CAA protestors at Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI) in Delhi, Maharashtra Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik on Friday said that the ideology of Nathuram Godse, who killed Mahatma Gandhi, is still alive. 

"The (Jamia) incident took place on the same day when Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated. This means that the ideology of Gose is still alive and is also being encouraged,” Nawab Malik said. 

Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik stated that the shooting incident at Jamia took place days after Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Monday encouraged the crowd at an election rally in Delhi to shout slogans: “Desh ke Gaddaro ko, Goli maro Saalo ko (The traitors of this country should be shot)”.

Malik alleged that such remarks by BJP leaders are spoiling the atmosphere of the country, adding that there should be an investigation into the Jamia shooting incident. 

“A few days ago, Anurag Thakur had said about shooting traitors. Such remarks by BJP leaders is spoiling the atmosphere of the country,” Malik said.

The shooter was recoganised as "RamBhakt" Gopal Sharma.

Several BJP leaders have made 'hateful' remarks against those protesting against the new Citizenship law and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC). The protestors have come out in large numbers to oppose the decision taken by Modi government.

From metropolitan cities to villages in Bihar, the protests against CAA and NRC have intensified. The women all across have come forward to opposed the "discriminatory" law.
