Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday compared the attack on students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to 26/11 terror attacks which happened in Mumbai. While addressing a press conference, Uddhav Thackeray expressed that the assault by masked goons armed with sticks and iron rods is an act of “cowards”.

The students in Maharashtra have come out in solidarity with the JNU students and are protesting across the state. In Mumbai, the youth and students have been protesting since Saturday midnight.

Reacting to this, Thackeray said that no move to hurt the students protesting in Maharashtra will be tolerated by his government.

The reports on TV and the attack on JNU students on Sunday night reminded me of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Students are feeling unsafe in the country. I will not tolerate anything like this happening in Maharashtra,” said CM Uddhav Thackeray.

CM Thackeray further said that the youth of this country are scared and angry but not cowards while urging the Delhi Police to find the perpetrators.

We should know who was behind the masks. If they had guts, they would have come openly. Such cowardice can’t be tolerated,” Thackeray said.

On Sunday night, groups of masked men entered the JNU campus in Delhi and attacked the students and professors present there with sticks and rods while damaging the property in the university premises. Nearly 28 students were ‘badly’ injured in the attack including Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Aishe Ghosh.
