In distasteful and shocking comments on 26/11 martyr Hemant Karkare, the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recruit Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur boasted that her ‘curse’ killed him. "I had told him you will be doomed, and he was gone in less than two months," bragged Sadhvi Pragya, a 2008 Malegaon blasts accused who has been named as a candidate by BJP for the national election in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

Hemant Karkare was martyred by the terrorists during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, in which 166 people were killed. Karkare was the chief of Maharashtra’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and he had investigated against Sadhvi Pragya Singh in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

The BJP candidate said that the investigation team had called Karkare and had asked him to drop case against her if he did not have evidence. In response, the ATS chief had said that he would do anything to get evidence against Sadhvi Pragya and won’t let her go. After which, Sadhvi claimed that she had said, ‘tera sarvanash hoga (you will be doomed)’. She also called him anti-national and anti-religious.

While her comments were not condemned, shockingly the BJP leaders were seen clapping at these bizarre and outrageous comments.

Hemant Karkare was the first officer to investigate the blasts on September 29, 2008, in which six people were killed and 101 injured. Lt. Col Shrikant Purohit, Sadhvi Pragya and others were arrested and were charged with plotting the blasts.

Despite being the main accused in the Malegaon case, Sadhvi Pragya was given a clean chit by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2015. However, the trial court refused to let her off and had said it was hard to believe there was a lack of evidence against her since her motorcycle was used in the blast.
