The Lok Sabha election 2019 has begun and the voters are reaching out to their respective voting centres to cast their votes. In order to ensure that the voting process runs smoothly, the Election Commission allots several volunteers, who work for 12-15 hours continuously at the centres. Due to which, the volunteers feel tired and experience fatigue from the relentless work.

In order to provide them with necessary medical care, lawyer Deepak Chattopadhyay had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Bombay High Court, demanding additional medical facilities for the volunteers during the Lok Sabha elections. The PIL was heard by the bench of Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice Nitin Jamdar who then pronounced their judgement.
In response, the Election Commission told Bombay HC that the volunteers are provided with basic medical facilities. However, the commission added that there was no need for allotting a ambulance at every voting centre and they will be provided in case of emergencies.

To which, the bench ruled out the verdict saying that every centre should consist of primary medical services. Alongside, the ill volunteers along with voters requiring medical attention should be immediately transferred to the nearest hospital.
