Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi holding as many as 18 meetings in Maharashtra, many candidates of the Mahayuti have had to see the defeat. Modi held a big rally at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on May 17 and before that he also held a road show in Ghatkopar two days earlier. But in Mumbai, the Mahayuti suffered a big blow.
Modi held 18 campaign meetings in the state, almost twice as compared to the 2019 election. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said that due to the five-phase election this year, there was enough time for campaigning and Modi's campaign meetings were more and meetings were also held for the candidates of Shiv Sena (Shinde group) and NCP (Ajit Pawar group). However, due to the strength of the Maha Vikas Aghadi in the state, many seats were in danger and the leaders of the Mahayuti felt that the atmosphere would change after holding a meeting with Modi. But it didn't actually happen. Fadnavis, Mumbai BJP president Adv Ashish Shelar were expressing firm belief that all six candidates of the Mahayuti will be elected in Mumbai. But the great alliance was defeated after a fierce battle.
