In India, elections are held once every five years. While the leaders make promises and plans for these five years, the work doesn’t get implemented, eventually leading to complaints and disappointment. So to understand the same, we asked Mumbaikars if the elections should be held frequently and not as per the current guidelines. Here are their responses:
A resident of Dadar said that the duration of 5 years is perfect as it takes time to get hold of the constituency, implement policies and see the effects of the policy. However, all the elections like Vidhan Sabha, Lok Sabha and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) should be held together.
Another resident agreed to the fact that the frequency of elections should be increased. He also further suggested that the government should make voting compulsory as people go for picnics on polling day. People should utilise their right to vote for a healthy democracy and if someone doesn't, he should be fined by the authorities.
