Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and party’s star campaigner Shahnawaz Hussain on Thursday attacked Congress President Rahul Gandhi saying that he is contesting Lok Sabha elections from Kerala’s Wayanad because it is a minority-dominated area.

Rahul Gandhi has realised that the political waves are not in favour of Congress. So, he has run to Wayanad. Doesn’t he trust the people of Amethi and the majority of this country? Earlier, during Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Congress performed badly in Amethi while it was in alliance with Samajwadi Party,” said BJP National spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.

While addressing a press conference at BJP office in Mumbai, Hussain said that people of Amethi have already accepted Union Minister Smriti Irani as their representative.

If Rahul Gandhi has worked in Amethi, why is he running away? Amethi has been a family constituency of Rahul Gandhi. If people of Amethi can’t accept him, how will the country accept him?

On contesting from Wayanad LS constituency, in addition with his candidature in Amethi, Rahul Gandhi had earlier said that South India feels hostility from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gandhi had further said that he wanted to show people that Congress stands with South India.

Reacting to this, Shahnawaz said that Congress is scared ahead of Lok Sabha polls and they have only one issue - to remove Narendra Modi. “...however, the people of the country are against those who oppose Modi,” the BJP national spokesperson added.

Accusing Congress of defaming Hindus over “Hindu Terror” remarks, BJP leader Hussain said that Congress and the opposition have no issues in these elections while claiming that Modi government has seen every individual as one.

Only BJP decides on candidature for elections

When asked whether BJP leader Kirit Somaiya was denied candidature, from Mumbai North-East LS constituency, under pressure by Shiv Sena, Hussain asserted that the decision to field candidates is only taken by BJP.

Only BJP central election committee decides on the candidature for elections. We don’t take and give advice to our alliance parties on doing the same,” said Hussain.

Providing the slogan, “Abki Baar 400 ke paar,” the BJP leader said that the NDA will win over 400 seats in Lok Sabha elections while it will sweep 100 per cent seats in Maharashtra.

BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain was denied seat from Bhagalpur in Bihar, for which he blamed Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar. However, Hussain is campaigning for his party and its candidates in his capacity of a “star campaigner.”
