The assembly elections in Maharashtra are scheduled on October 21 and people will vote to elect their representative in 288 constituencies across the state. 

Of the 288 assembly seats, Chandivali is the 168th constituency in Maharashtra which is a part of Mumbai suburban district and comes under the city's North Central Parliamentary constituency. 

Under the Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha constituency, the assembly constituency includes Kalina, Chandivali, Bandra East, Bandra West, Kurla and Vile Parle.

In Chandivali constituency, the prominent faces which are contesting the assembly polls in 2019 include Shiv Sena's Dilip Lande and Congress' Naseem Khan among others. Khan is the current MLA from Chandivali assembly constituency.

Number of Voters

Of the 3,79,297 voters in Chandivali assembly constituency, 1.10 lakh are Muslim voters, one lakh are Marathi voters while 90,000 are Hindi-speaking followed by 15,000 south Indian voters, 15,000 Gujarati voters and 5,000 Christian voters.

Of the 1.10 lakh Muslim voters, 75 per cent are north Indians while among the Hindi-speaking voters, 80 per cent are from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. 


Result in Previous polls

Four-time MLA Naseem Khan has maintained his stronghold in Chandivali constituency from the year 1999 to 2019. In 2009, Nassem Khan defeated Dilip Lande by 33,715 voters.

Lande then contested the assembly polls from Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). However, this time Lande has been fielded by Shiv Sena. 

In 2004 assembly elections, Khan had defeated Shiv Sena's Dattaram Gujar. However, during the 2014 assembly elections, amid the so-called "Modi wave", Khan managed to defeat Shiv Sena's Santosh Ramnivas Singh by 29,469 votes. 


Problems in Chandivali constituency

The rehabilitation issue of 800 people living in the area has been pending for 40 years and the same was raised the legislative assembly this year. Along with this, traffic and illegal construction work is also a problem in Chandivali assembly elections.
