Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil alleges corruption; targets Sharad Pawar

Patil also applauded the containment of COVID-19 outbreak in Mumbai’s Dharavi but asked whether it was due to the state government’s efforts or the volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has recently given a marathon interview to Shiv Sena leader and Executive Editor of ‘Saamana’ Sanjay Raut and became the first non-Sena leader to do so.

Reacting to this, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil said that this was a stunt to increase the sale of the newspaper. Pawar’s recent interview with ‘Saamana’ was an attempt to show that all was okay among the three allies in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, he added.

Patil further said that Devendra Fadnavis - Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Maharashtra legislative assembly - had already cornered Pawar by revealing that Pawar wanted to join hands with the BJP last year in October.

However, the NCP chief is now saying that his move in 2014 to support the BJP was a political ploy to create differences between Shiv Sena and the BJP. “The former Chief Minister (Devendra Fadnavis) will reply to Pawar’s claims too,” the Maharashtra BJP chief said.

In an interview last month, Fadnavis had claimed that Pawar was part of the discussion to form the government with the BJP after 2019 assembly elections but backed out at last minute to join hands with Congress and Shiv Sena.

On the contrary, the NCP chief has claimed that the BJP leaders approached his party multiple times to form the government in Maharashtra but NCP refused to do so.

Reacting to this, Patil took a dig at the NCP and said that Pawar should go solo in the next assembly elections to find out where his party stand in terms of political support from people.

Earlier, the BJP leader had alleged corruption in Maharashtra during the COVID-19 management saying that his party will raise the issue post-pandemic period. He said that there were irregularities in the purchase of bags for dead bodies.

Patil also applauded the containment of COVID-19 outbreak in Mumbai’s Dharavi but asked whether it was due to the state government’s efforts or the volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers.

He said that RSS workers volunteered to conduct house-to-house screening of people in Dharavi and got people admitted in hospital with the help of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
