Maharashtra Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anil Parab on Thursday announced that the ongoing budget session of the state legislature will conclude on Saturday – March 14. 

The Maharashtra budget session which started on February 24 has been cut short by a week. Earlier, the budget session was scheduled until March 20. 

This comes after Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday informed that the ongoing Maharashtra budget session may be curtailed in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also stated that there was a need for MLAs and officers to be on the field in their respective areas amid the coronavirus outbreak. This is why it has been decided to wind up on Saturday. 

On Wednesday night, in a meeting, it was decided that the work of the ongoing Maharashtra budget session will wind up on Saturday. The budget will also be cleared on the same day. Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Nana Patole, LoP in Assembly and Council – Devendra Fadnavis and Pravin Darekar were also present in the meeting. 

The announcement to curtail the ongoing Maharashtra budget session was made in the Assembly on Thursday. Anil Parab informed the lower house regarding the decision of the Legislature Business Advisory committee. 

Along with the state budget, the Appropriation bill will also be passed on Saturday. 

In Maharashtra, 11 people have been tested positive for the novel coronavirus or COVID-19. Meanwhile, Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan informed the Assembly that 102 Indian students including two from Mumbai were stranded at the Rome Airport while another 44 tourists from Kolhapur and Sangli in Maharashtra were stuck in Iran.

Earlier, CM Uddhav Thackeray had announced that all schools and colleges will be closed if needed in the wake of coronavirus. “Class 10 examination is going on right now. So wait for two days, all schools and colleges will be close if required,” said Thackeray.
