After the Rajya Sabha on Monday passed the Jammu & Kashmir reorganisation bill, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis praised the Modi government at the centre and said that the mistake which was committed by the previous government has been corrected. 

This day will be seen as historic. The mistakes committed by then government regarding Kashmir have been corrected by today’s government. Modiji and Amit Shah have truly made Kashmir an integral part of India,” said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

While campaigning in Chandrapur during his Maha Janadesh Yatra, CM Fadnavis further said that the centre’s decision to revoke Article 370 has prevented the attempts made by Pakistan and then Congress government earlier to separate J&K from India. 

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray also hailed the Modi government for their decision to revoke Article 370. Uddhav Thackeray said that the dream of late Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been fulfilled. 

While Aditya Thackeray called it a “moment of pride” and stated that this decision projects Narendra Modi government’s will towards national unity.

On August 5, 2019, Union Home Minister Amit Shah tabled a resolution in Rajya Sabha to scrap Article 370 and 35 A. Later in the day, after President Ram Nath Kovind came out with a notification and the upper house passed the J&K reorganisation bill.
