While the BJP attests to be a transparent government, there has been a recent release that has contradicted this claim. The Association for Democratic Reform (ADR) has released a report that features India’s 31 Chief Ministers, which also included the criminal cases registered against each of them. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tops the list with the highest number of criminal cases against him, while Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala, and Arvind Kejriwal stand second and third in the list with 11 and 10 cases, respectively.


22 criminal cases registered against CM Devendra Fadnavis

As per the information received by electoral affidavits given by Chief Ministers of all the 29 states and two Union Territories, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has 22 criminal cases registered, including three serious cases. Some of the charges against Fadnavis include serious charges such as “abetment of such assault, if the assault is committed”, “voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means”, being part of an unlawful assembly, rioting, voluntarily causing hurt and wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent.

The criminal record of 20 out of the 31 Chief Ministers in the country is clear, while 8 Chief Ministers have cases registered under serious charges.


Only 39% chief ministers are graduates

The ADR has also revealed the educational qualification statuses of the various chief ministers. The study shows that only 39% CMs are graduates while 16% hold a post-graduation degree. Sikkim CM Pawan Kumar Chamling holds a doctorate degree.


25 chief ministers are millionaires

Chief Ministers of 25 states in India are millionaires. Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu is the richest, while Tripura CM Manik Sarkar is the poorest, as stated by the ADR. West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee possesses the highest assets worth ₹30 lakhs and Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti accounts for wealth worth ₹55 lakhs. 25 chief ministers have declared owning assets over ₹1 crore
