Amid the high-level drama in Maharashtra, Jayant Patil was elected as Nationalist Congress Paty (NCP) Legislature Party leader on Saturday evening replacing Ajit Pawar who was sworn-in as Deputy Chief Minister. NCP called a meeting of all its party MLAs.

On Saturday morning, in a shocking development, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Maharashtra Chief Minister.

After the meeting concluded, Mumbai NCP chief Nawab Malik informed the media that their 40 MLAs participated in the meeting while six more will return to the NCP fold.

Malik said, however, they have not been able to contact five legislators including Ajit Pawar. In the recently concluded assembly elections, NCP won on 54 seats.

"Rebel" NCP MLA Dhananjay Munde also came for the party meeting. Munde was accused of supporting Ajit Pawar and was reportedly present at the oath ceremony in Raj Bhawan.

The letter Ajit Pawar gave to the Governor was the attendance list of the NCP MLAs from the party’s meeting. Ajit Pawar misused the same. NCP doesn’t stand with Ajit Pawar’s decision, and we three parties are working together to stop BJP coming to power,” said Malik.
