Amid allegations of the Maharashtra minister Sanjay Rathod being linked to the death of a 23-year-old woman, the state government said that a decision will soon be taken on the continuation in the state cabinet of the Shiv Sena leader.

Shiv Sena leader and state forest minister Sanjay Rathore, who has been implicated in the suicide case of Pooja Chavan, has submitted its resignation from the ministry.

Pooja Chavan, a young woman living in Pune with her brother for a spoken English class, committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of a building in Pune on February 7.

The deceased, a popular figure on social media, died by suicide in Pune on February 8. The police registered a case of accidental death, ruling out foul play. She did not leave a suicide note.

The episode came to the fore when 11 audio clips of a person allegedly talking with a Sena worker about the woman went viral. The BJP alleged that one of the persons in the audio clip is Rathod and demanded his resignation.

According to reports, Sanjay Rathod has been missing for eight days. Hence, BJP leaders have become more aggressive for his resignation. As a result, the pressure on the Thackeray government is also increasing.

The Thackeray government has accepted Rathod’s resignation to curb the aggression of the opposition. However, no official information has been given by the state government in this regard.

BJP leader Chitra Wagh alleged that the audio clips point to Rathod’s connection to the case. The audio clips clearly showed that the woman was forced to commit suicide. The audio clips and pictures in the social media clearly indicate this. The police department should file a suo motu offence of manslaughter against him. But this requires political will, she added.

On the other hand, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Devendra Fadnavis has handed over a letter to the Director General of Police demanding an inquiry into the matter without naming anyone.
