After announcing loan waiver for farmers, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday said that the state government was taking into account the waiving of loans for the fishermen.

Thackeray stated this during his visit to Sindhudhurg district where the Chief Minister held a review meeting regarding the issue.  Earlier in December 2019, CM Thackeray had announced loan waiver up to ₹2 lakh for the farmers.

However, those who had taken loans of more than ₹2 lakh were not eligible for the waiver announced by the Maharashtra government.

During the review meeting, CM Thackeray said that the government is considering waiving the loans of fishermen and all such fishermen should be surveyed and classified accordingly.

“To get the waiver, the fishermen should provide detailed information regarding the loan amount and type. The eligibility criteria for the waiver should also be given,” Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said.

The decision on providing loan waiver to the fishermen will be taken only after examining the details, Thackeray added.

Earlier, while addressing farmers in Jalgaon, CM Uddhav Thackeray said that farmers will get better schemes to clear their debts and the state government will work towards providing electricity and water for farmers in the daytime.

“Shiv Sena had promised to clear farmers’ loans before coming power. We will launch two more schemes for farmers and separate schemes for those who regularly return their loans. The government will also work towards providing electricity and water to farmers during the daytime,” Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said.
