The chairman of Cabinet Sub-Committee on Maratha Reservation Ashok Chavan on Tuesday, May 18, held a meeting to discuss the state government’s future course of action.

The Cabinet Sub-Committee on Maratha Reservation reviewed the current status of the recruitment process after the Supreme Court verdict along with various decisions taken by the state government for the Maratha community.

The Chief Secretary is reviewing the recruitment process department-wise which was stalled due to the Supreme Court order on the Maratha reservation. His reports are expected in the next two-three days and later, a final decision on recruitment will be taken, said Chavan while speaking to reporters after the meeting.

The meeting was held at Sahyadri Government Guest House under the chairmanship of Public Works Minister and Chairman of the sub-committee Ashok Chavan. Members of the sub-committee and Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde were present.

The minister also mentioned that a committee of legal experts has been set up under the chairmanship of former Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale to study the Supreme Court's decision on Maratha reservation and make recommendations on further legal options. His report will be received before May 31.

The state government will thereafter take a call on filing a review petition and exploring other options, he added.

Ashok Chavan also clarified that the reimbursement of education fees and hostel concessions for the Maratha community will continue. The state cabinet had taken several decisions on September 22, 2020 to provide relief to the Maratha community. The meeting also reviewed the implementation of those decisions.

The meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte, Principal Secretary Social Justice Sham Tagade, General Administration Secretary Kishorraje Nimbalkar, Law and Justice Secretary and Legal Adviser Sanjay Deshmukh, Annasaheb Patil Economic Development Corporation Managing Director Anil Patil and other officials.
