Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, speaking at a review meeting being held at Thane, seemed uncertain about lifting the lockdown stating that carelessness in handling the pandemic would have serious consequences. He added that several countries have experienced a second wave of the coronavirus after opening up the economy completely, so no decision should be taken in haste.

For the last 3 months, the Government of Maharashtra has been giving many concessions to the citizens of the state under "Mission Begin Again" by relaxing certain lockdown norms. However, with this statement, the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has indicated that the lockdown restrictions in the state with regards to travel and public transport will remain in place even after September 1.

Moreover, Thackeray added that the state government will not rush to lift the lockdown. The CM explaining the need for certain restrictions stated that unless the government is fully convinced, some rules have to be followed.

However, the state cabinet meeting on Wednesday will consider relaxing the e-pass rules, increasing the frequency of local trains, limiting the number of passengers to rail services and raising the attendance limit of government and private employees to 50 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) recently initiated a survey where pertinent questions about the lockdown were asked, like, the different aspects of the lockdown, work done by CM Thackeray and electricity bills. President Raj Thackeray further added that the government should now put an end to the lockdown as people’s livelihoods are getting affected.
