Maharashtra Governor files complaint against a news-portal for defamatory report

In a statement, Maharashtra Raj Bhavan informed that the news published by the portal on its website relates to the alleged facilitation of the travel of a model from Maharashtra to Dehradun Enroute Delhi.

A police complaint was filed with the cyber cell of the Mumbai police against a news portal for publishing defamatory news about Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. 

The complaint was filed at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai against “News Uttarakhand” for publishing a defamatory report about Governor Koshyari and circulating it on social media. 

“A police complaint has been lodged against a news portal with the Cyber Crime Police Station at Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai regarding the publication of defamatory news about Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on the internet and its circulation on social media (sic),” the official handle of Governor of Maharashtra tweeted.

The report published by the news portal stated that the Governor had arranged an army helicopter amid the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak for a young female model named Jaini alias Jayanthi to travel to Dehradun from Maharashtra via Delhi. The report also stated that a car was also arranged for the lady model to travel till Dehradun. However, the office of Maharashtra Governor said that the claims made in the news are false. 

In a statement, Maharashtra Raj Bhavan informed that the news published by the portal on its website relates to the alleged facilitation of the travel of a model from Maharashtra to Dehradun Enroute Delhi. 

“The contents of the news are false, fabricated and based on the nefarious design with an intent to malign the unblemished image of Hon’ble Governor (sic),” the statement read. 

The police officials said that action will be taken against the website owners and writers for publishing the fake news while the Raj Bhavan officials said that no such incident has happened and this was being done to malign Governor Koshyari's image.
