Maharashtra has done 66,896 tests until now : Uddhav Thackeray

The Chief Minister further announced that financial activities on some front will be initiated in districts where zero COVID-19 cases have been reported. Uddhav Thackeray said that industries can begin to operate in green zones.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday informed the state has carried out 66,896 tests for the coronavirus or COVID-19 until now while stating that over 70 to 75 per cent of these are asymptomatic. 

“Of the 66,896 tests carried out by Maharashtra, 95 per cent are negatives while over 3,600 have turned out be positive. Moreover, 300 to 350 people of these have been recovered and gone home. Meanwhile, 75 per cent are either mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic and only 52 patients are serious,” Uddhav Thackeray informed during his address on social media. 

While addressing the citizens, Uddhav Thackeray said that there was a shortage of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) kits and the Maharashtra government was trying to get the same. 

“I am not going to lie, there is a shortage of PPE kits. However, we are trying to get the same. We are doing everything possible to help doctors,” Thackeray said. 

The Chief Minister further announced that financial activities on some front will be initiated in districts where zero COVID-19 cases have been reported. Uddhav Thackeray said that industries can begin to operate in green zones. 

“Business and financial activities have been hit during this time of the coronavirus. We have divided the regions in Maharashtra under red, orange and green zones. The industries can start to operate under green zones from April 20 where no COVID-19 cases have been reported,” Thackeray announced while adding that the state government will provide food grains to the labours working there. 

The Chief Minister also said that the farming activities will continue as they were not stopped earlier as well. The Maharashtra government had earlier announced that farmers will have no restrictions in carrying out the agricultural activities given that it the Rabi harvest season. 

Farming activities will continue and was not halted earlier also while the district borders will continue to be sealed. However, essential supplies will be allowed but not the labour movements across districts,” Uddhav Thackeray said during his address. 

Uddhav Thackeray further clarified that only the doorstep delivery of the newspapers is prohibited in red zones including Mumbai and Pune while the stalls can operate. 

The Chief Minister also said that the cases of violence against women inside their homes are being reported. “I hope we don’t get these cases in Maharashtra. I want to appeal to women to dial 100 in case of any problem.”

Uddhav Thackeray also appealed the people to come out if they feel unwell while asking them not to hide their symptoms. “Doctors have informed us that many people are coming to us only when their cases become serious. In some cases, people have died even before their results were received. Please don’t hide your symptoms. If you feel unwell, let us know,” the Chief Minister said during his address.
