Maharashtra Opposition parties and leaders on Monday lashed out at Enforcement Directorate (ED) for issuing summons to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and Unmesh Joshi, son of former Chief Minister Manohar Joshi.

The ED issued a summons in connection with its ongoing probe regarding alleged irregularities in the loan given by Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS) to Kohinoor CTNL. The Kohinoor CTNL is founded by Unmesh Joshi. 

Earlier on Monday, Unmesh Joshi appeared before the ED officers and told the media that he will fully cooperate with the investigating agency. ED has summoned Raj Thackeray on August 22. 


Maharashtra Congress President Balasaheb Thorat

Reacting to this, Maharashtra Congress President Balasaheb Thorat said that this is a tactic by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government against the opposition. 

Raj Thackeray had earlier raised several important issues before the Lok Sabha elections and he is being targeted now. This is a dictatorial tactics by the BJP,” Thorat claimed.

Thorat further said that instead of tackling issues such as inflation, unemployment, farmers' issue, the government is busy silencing its critics.


Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi

While commenting on the issue, Manohar Joshi, who is a senior Shiv Sena leader said that ED issued notice out of “confusion” and later in the day asserted that businessmen are bound to face such issues.


Maharashtra Legislative Council LoP Dhananjay Munde

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Dhananjay Munde slammed the BJP and Shiv Sena government saying that this is dirty politics at play.

Thackeray had exposed the BJP and Shiv Sena alliance government during LS poll campaign and now has been summoned by ED,” said Munde claiming that the current government will lose in the upcoming state assembly elections.

Swabhimani Shetkari Sangathan (SSS) supremo Raju Shetti

While terming ED’s move to summon Thackeray as a “witch hunt”, Shetti said that this is happening because the MNS chief criticised LS poll results and launched a campaign against the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the election process.
