Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday refused to comment on the issue of government formation in Maharashtra. However, later in the day, NCP MP Majid Memon confirmed the same to Times Now.

When asked about the ongoing political turmoil in Maharashtra, Sonia Gandhi said, “No comments”.

Gandhi’s response comes after Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut expressed confidence that a government in Maharashtra will be in place by next month.

We are getting closer on the government formation. The situation will be clear in the next two days and a government led by Shiv Sena will be formed in Maharashtra by December,” said Sanjay Raut earlier in the day.

When asked about the meeting between Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress which was scheduled today evening, the Shiv Sena’s firebrand leader had said that there will be a “full stop to it”.

This means that the two parties were at the final stage of their discussion regarding government formation in Maharashtra.

On Wednesday evening, top leaders of NCP and Congress held a meeting in Delhi to finalise the government formation in Maharashtra. As per sources, the common minimum programme (CMP) and a possible alliance with Shiv Sena were discussed in the meeting.
