Mahim Assembly Constituency: A three-way fight in Mahim this year?

So once again Sada Saravankar can be Shiv Sena's (Shinde) candidate, alternatively Mahayuti's candidate, but nothing has been declared yet

Mahim Assembly Constituency: A three-way fight in Mahim this year?
SHARES

Mahim Assembly Constituency falls in South-Central Mumbai Lok Sabha Constituency. This assembly constituency and Lok Sabha constituency is also Shiv Sena's (Thackeray) stronghold. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, Thackeray's candidate Anil Desai has won from this seat. Shiv Sena has been holding this constituency since 1989. Eknath Gaikwad of Congress had won in this constituency only in 2009. So, since 1990 Shiv Sena has dominated this assembly constituency as well. However, in 2009, Nitin Sardesai of MNS was elected as an MLA from the seat.

Sada Saravankar is the current MLA from here. After the split of Shiv Sena, Saravankar has gone with Eknath Shinde. Hence Shiv Sena (Shinde) will demand this seat in the Mahayuti. The other partie are unlikely to oppose Shinde's party's bid for this constituency. So once again Sada Saravankar can be Shiv Sena's (Shinde) candidate, alternatively Mahayuti's candidate. However, it is not yet certain who will be nominated from Mahavikas Aghadi.

Like Shiv Sena, MNS also has thousands of voters in Mahim Assembly constituency. In 2009, MNS had wrested this constituency from Shiv Sena. Also, in the last two assembly elections, the MNS candidates did not allow the Shiv Sena candidate, i.e. Sada Saravankar, to win easily. In both the previous elections, Mahim saw a tough fight. This year also a similar fight will be seen here. The MNS had unconditionally supported the Mahayuti in the Lok Sabha elections. But the MNS has not participated in the Mahayuti in the Legislative Assembly. Currently, none of the parties have predicted the possibility of these parties coming together. If this alliance does not happen, this constituency may see a three-way fight this year.

What is the strategy of MNS?

There is a possibility that Mahim Assembly constituency will go to Shiv Sena (Shinde) in Mahayuti. But in the Mahavikas Aghadi, Shiv Sena (Thackeray) will claim this constituency. They may face opposition from Congress. But Congress does not have a very large electorate here. Therefore, this year in Mahim, Thackeray's Shiv Sena versus Shinde's Shiv Sena versus MNS can be fought. From MNS, Sandeep Deshpande and former MLA Nitin Sardesai will be interested in contesting from here. Sandeep Deshpande is also organising a march in Worli Assembly Constituency this year. Therefore, both Sardesai and Worlit Deshpande can enter the Assembly arena on MNS tickets in Mahim.
