Maratha outfits from 22 districts took a unanimous decision to launch a non-cooperation movement against the government in a state coordination committee at Latur in Marathwada region on Sunday. The community has decided not to pay utility bills and taxes until the government gives in to their demand for reservation in jobs and education.

The protest will be resumed by the name Maratha Kranti Janandolan from Wednesday. Marathas will stage sit-ins outside the residences of MLAs and MPs from August 1 to 9, and hold road blockades on August 9, marked as August Kranti Diwas. In addition to withdrawal of all criminal cases registered against the community members, they have also demanded ₹50 lakh in compensation to the families of two youths, who died during the protest, and jobs for their family members.
