After their demands were not being met despite carrying out several silent protests, the Maratha outfits alerted the state government that they will carry out the protests again if their demands are not met in the next 15 days.

Earlier in August 2017, the Maratha communities carried out a massive rally in South Mumbai blocking the roads outside CSTM railway station and the whole of Azad Maidan and pressed their demands for reservation and more. However, most of their demands have either not met or have been completed half-way.

Representatives of Maratha outfits met the committee headed by revenue minister Chandrakant Patil on Thursday and expressed their disappointment over the government’s actions regarding their demands.

The Maharashtra government has already provided financial aid to the students who belong to Economically Backward Classes (EBCs) or 605 vocational courses. However, the delegation said that the government has not catered to medical courses. The representatives expressed their discontent over the government’s failure - to extend the financial aid up to ₹10 lakh from Annasaheb Patil Financially Backward Development Corporation, to form a hostel for Maratha students.

The delegation warned that if the government fails to respond to their demands, the Maratha community will march to protest and this time the protest won’t be silent like before. Another important demand of the community focuses on giving them reservation under the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) category.

The Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission (MSBCC) will submit its report of surveys, being conducted to measure the backwardness of Maratha community, in next few months. However, Patil has assured that the demands of the community will be fulfilled over the next 15 days.
