Mira-Bhayandar MLA Geeta Jain joins Shiv Sena

On Saturday, October 24, 2020, an Independent MLA, Geeta Jain, from the Mira-Bhayander Constituency, joined the Shiv Sena. She was present at CM Uddhav Thackeray's residence, Matoshri for the same, and was seen wearing the 'Shivbandhan' on her hand. joined Shiv Sena today. 

The event took place in the presence of the CM, who welcomed her in joining the party, in the presence of other members from Shiv Sena. Cabinet Minister Aaditya Thackeray also took to Twitter to share the same, and said, "This afternoon, CM Uddhav Thackeray welcomed Mira Bhayandar MLA Geeta Jain into @ShivSena officially in the presence of Minister @mieknathshinde, MP @rajanvichare, MLA ratPratapSarnaik, MLC @ravindrasphatak. We welcome her into the party to serve the state as a team!"

He shared a picture captured at the event.

Geeta Jain is an independent MLA from the Mira-Bhayander assembly constituency and as per reports several other corporators from the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) are also expected to enter the party. It is said that the strength of Shiv Sena and the current Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) is likely to increase with the addition of new members.

In the past, Geeta Jain had revolted from the BJP and contested the Assembly elections, and had defeated BJP candidate Narendra Mehta. Reports state that she did not get the nomination, and so decided to contest the election on her own, eventually winning the same.

Earlier this week, leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were shocked when one of their senior leaders, Eknath Khadse, decided to leave the party and join Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar. On September 23, 2020, Sharad Pawar cleared the air by stating that no leaders in the NCP have issues with Khadse joining the party. Further, no roles or portfolios will be shuffled at the moment and the work will remain unaffected. In fact, Khadse's entry in the NCP has only strengthened the party.
