Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Nitin Sardesai has called out several media reports claiming that Raj Thackeray was fined during his journey on the new Mumbai-Mandwa RoRo water transport. Sardesai said that these news reports are completely false and misleading.

Sardesai clarified that the news reports claiming that Raj Thackeray was fined ₹1,000 for not wearing a mask was false, misleading and were published without any confirmation.

On Friday, Raj Thackeray had left Mumbai for Alibaug with his family and his choice of transport was Mumbai-Mandwa RoRo ferry service. Several media houses published that the MNS chief moved to the open section, removed his mask and even lit a cigarette. Therefore, he was asked to pay a ₹1,000 fine.

Reacting to this, Sardesai said that the news should be confirmed by the concerned person before being published. Some media outlets have published the news of Raj Thackeray being fined and it is based on anecdotal information only. The MNS leader wrote letters to ‘Zee 24 Taas’, ‘Mumbai Mirror’ and Lokmat.

“Since I was with Raj Thackeray on this journey. I can say this with certainty that no such incident has taken place. The news of Thackeray being fined is completely wrong and people are being misled by such reports,” Sardesai said.

Meanwhile, the MNS earlier protested against the Maharashtra government and travelled on the local train without permission, defying the lockdown rules. Four MNS leaders including Sandeep Deshpande were arrested by the crime branch of Mumbai Police for the same.

The MNS has been demanding the Maharashtra government to allow general passengers to travel via local trains in Mumbai.
