Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray remembered Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray on the occasion of ‘bhoomi pujan’ for Ram Mandir construction in Ayodhya.

Along with several right-wing organisations and political parties, Shiv Sena also participated in the Ram Mandir movement in the early 1990s and Bal Thackeray, known as the Hindu Hriday Samrat was probably the first politician who openly admitted that his party members were responsible for demolishing the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.

In a statement, Raj Thackeray expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government for their efforts for Ram Mandir construction. While remembering the Shiv Sena founder, Thackeray said that his thoughts are with Bal Thackeray on the occasion of ‘bhoomi pujan’.

“Karsevaks and people lost their lives for the (Ram Mandir) struggle, now finally their souls will get salvation. This struggle has been a relentless story and be it either the judicial battle or creating a riveting atmosphere of consensus, the efforts made by Shri Narendra Modi government have been remarkable and I wholeheartedly thank them for the same,” Thackeray said.

“Amidst this happening, my thoughts are with Shri Balasaheb Thackeray. He should have been there to witness this. His happiness would have been unparalleled,” he added.

It is interesting to note that although Raj Thackeray campaigned against PM Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of Lok Sabha elections last year, his party turned full saffron ahead of the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly Elections.

PM Modi on August 5 laid the foundation stone for the Ram Mandir construction in Ayodhya which was due after the Supreme Court’s decision on age-old dispute over land which is considered as the birthplace of Lord Ram.
