After receiving backlash from the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government over loudspeaker issue in mosques, MNS chief Raj Thackeray on May 4, shared a video of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray speaking against the use of loudspeakers.

In a short video, Balasaheb Thackeray was seen saying: “On the day my government comes into power in Maharashtra, we will not stay quiet unless the street prayers (azaan) are stopped. Because religion has to be such that it should not interfere with national development. People should not be bothered by it. If anyone is being harassed by our Hindu Dharma, let him come and tell us, we are ready to take care of it. Loudspeakers will come down on the mosque.”

This comes a day after Thackeray in an open letter appealed citizens to play Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers in front of mosques during morning prayers (azaan) from today, May 4.

He had earlier urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to heed his call on removing loudspeakers.

Thackeray also appealed to the police force "to show that the country is governed by law and order". The unauthorised masjids, loudspeakers and prayers being held in the middle of the roads, needs to be addressed duly by law," he added.
