On the occasion of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray’s birth anniversary, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Thursday launched the new flag for his party.

At the Maha Adhiveshan which convened on Thursday morning at NESCO Ground in Goregaon, MNS chief Raj Thackeray launched the new flag for his party in the presence of party workers.

In the Maha Adhiveshan, Thackeray has been accompanied by his family member including his wife Sharmila Thackeray and son Amit Thackeray.

The flag signifies the major shift in MNS’ policy which will be announced later today. Saffron in colour, the flag has ‘Raj Mudra’ (stamp) used during Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s rule.

A user on Quora has explained the Raj Mudra as,

Rajmudra is an authentic stamp or The Royal Seal that Chatrapati Shivaji maharaj used to use in his letters and ordinance. We have thousands of letter which has rajmudra printed on it. It has been believed that, rajmudra was given to Shivaji maharaj by his father Shahajiraje Bhosale when he (shahajiraje) sent Jijabai and young Shivaji to handle Pune Jahagir. The earliest letter found containing this ‘authenticity stamp' is from the year 1639."

MNS has also appropriated Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. On the stage, Savakar’s portrait can be seen along with the photographs of B.R. Ambedkar, Savitribai Phule and Prabodhankar Thackeray.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray will address the party workers and further unveil his party’s agenda in the evening. Thackeray has called the first conclave after 15 years of his party’s formation.
