Bhoomipujan ceremony has been organised on August 3 for the reconstruction of 'Manora' MLA residence in Nariman Point area. An incremental floor area index of 5.4 has been approved for two high-rise buildings of 40 and 28 floors each. The cost of this MLA residence project has increased by around INR 400 crores as work has stalled for nearly four years.

At a cost of about INR 1200 crores, accommodation will be arranged for a total of 368 MLAs, 288 of the Legislative Assembly and 78 of the Legislative Council, in one complex. All the four buildings of the Manora MLA Niwas, built in the 1990s, were in dangerous condition. Finally, it was decided to demolish all these four buildings and construct new buildings in their place. During the Fadnavis government, it was decided to hand over the reconstruction work to the construction department of the central government. Its foundation-laying ceremony was held, but the actual work could not begin. After the change of power in the state, it was decided to call for tenders instead of the central system. The project was stalled for four years in the confusion of whether to work through any mechanism. Due to this, the cost of this project of INR 853 crores went up to INR 1270 crores. Due to the stalling of the project, the cost has increased to over INR 400 crores.
