Nearly eight retired IPS officers have filed a petition in Bombay High Court against the false media campaign against Mumbai Police. Welcoming the petition, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that the state and Mumbai Police have a reputation.

“Maharashtra Police is compared to Scotland Yard Police. The manner in which Mumbai Police was targeted in the Sushant Singh Rajput case, I welcome the PIL filed by retired IPS officers,” Deshmukh said.

The petitioners include former Mumbai Police Commissioner DN Jadhav, followed by former DGPs MN Singh, DK Sivanandan, Satish Mathur, PS Pasricha, K Subramanyam, Sanjiv Dayal and former additional DGP KP Raghuvanshi.

They have moved to the Bombay HC on August 31 against the “unfair, malicious and false media campaign” against Mumbai Police in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The petition urged the court to put a halt on the ongoing “media trial”.

The petition also adds that a section of news channels are trying to influence the SSR case investigation which has been taken over by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The petitioner has sought directions from the court to concerned authorities to frame guidelines for the media while reporting such cases. It also seeks that media organisations refrain from publishing false propaganda against Mumbai Police.

Meanwhile, Actress Kangana Ranaut attacked Mumbai Police and said that she is more afraid of the city’s police than goons from the movie business. She either wants the security from Himachal Pradesh government or the centre directly but not Mumbai Police to expose the alleged ‘drug mafia’ in Bollywood.
