Ahead of Maharashtra assembly elections, the state cabinet on Tuesday decided to implement seventh pay commission for the employees working in local bodies including Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) along with other municipalities in the state. 

The seventh pay commission will be implemented from September 7 this year and will be applicable for the employees and authorities working in municipal councils, panchayats. The government employees working in the municipalities have been demanding the implementation of the seventh pay commission for a long time. 

According to the decision taken by the Maharashtra cabinet, the pay commission implementation will beneficial for employees and authorities working in 362 municipal councils and panchayats along with 26 Municipal Corporations. The retired officials will also be benefited from the same.

Moreover, the balance pending from January 1, 2016, to August 30, 2019 will also be paid by the government in the next five years.
