BJP recently celebrated winning three seats at the Rajya Sabha elections, and this victory stunned MVA and other opposition parties. Soon after the same, both the parties are once again facing a showdown for the 10 legislative council seats.

Reports state that a total of 11 candidates will be contesting for the seats, and the figure was obtained after two leaders – one each from BJP and NCP – pulled out their candidature. The last date for the withdrawal of nominations was Monday, June 13, 2022, and authorities have informed that the elections will be held on June 20, 2022.

27 votes will be required by the candidate to get elected as a member of legislative council (MLC). Post the defeat in the Rajya Sabha polls, MVA and the other opposition parties sought NCP chief, Sharad Pawar’s help to understand the reasons behind the same. Discussions were held to strengthen tier position and the leaders informed that the NCP was not at fault as no votes from the party were given to the BJP. Thoughts were drawn towards the independent MLAs who were discussing the matters with Shiv Sena.

Leaders from several opposition parties discussed the matters on Monday, June 13, 2022. A report regarding the same was published in the Hindustan Times. The publication quotes one of the leaders who said, “The real game begins now… the Rajya Sabha elections revealed the discontent in the MVA camp, and now, legislators will give vent to it through secret ballot.”

Another added, “The question is who will lose; Sena, Congress, or NCP? However, on paper, Congress, which lacks the numbers to get its second candidate elected, is in trouble.”

One of the leaders mentioned that the members lack ownership responsibilities and are also facing concerns regarding meeting the C due to which there are several problems the parties face with regards to planning for the polls.

Though there are several speculations and calculations being made about the potential victories, Congress Chief Balasaheb Thorat mentioned that that the MVA will definitely win as there are six candidates, and that there were no problems in the party.
