On February 18, Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena declared their alliance while addressing the media. The two parties will now contest Lok Sabha as well as Vidhan Sabha elections in an alliance. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made the announcement during a press conference at Worli.

However, political leader and the Maharashtra Swabhiman Party founder and chief, Narayan Rane criticised the alliance as he stated that the political partnership between Shiv Sena and BJP is not for the welfare of the people but for Shiv Sena's personal benefit.

As per the alliance, out of the 48 Lok Sabha seats of Maharashtra, Shiv Sena will contest for 23 seats whereas BJP will contest for 25 seats. On the other hand, both the parties will contest for Vidhan Sabha as per 50-50 formula.

Addressing the press, Rane stated that earlier Shiv Sena had declared that it will contest the elections independently but they haven't been true to their word and now have formed an alliance with BJP.

Along with this, he also declared that his party will now contest in Maharashtra for the Lok Sabha elections. He also shunned the rumours about his retirement and stated that he along with other candidates, will contest for the Lok Sabha elections.
