The remarks made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC Gopichand Padalkar against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar have sparked huge outrage in the political circle. In order to control the damage, senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis had to jump in saying that opposition against any senior leader should be expressed using appropriate words.

“I had a word with Padalkar and he has admitted that it was an emotional outburst against the NCP chief. I told him that Pawar saheb is our political opponent and not our enemy,” Fadnavis said.

However, the NCP cadre slammed Padalkar for his remarks against Pawar. Dhananjay Munde, NCP minister, said that Padalkar criticised the NCP supremo in order to gain name and fame.

“Sharad Pawar is coronavirus for Maharashtra. He (Pawar) has been leading the state for several years but has only oppressed people from the backward classes and will continue to do so in the future. I don’t think that he will be positive about the demand of reservation for the Dhangar community,” BJP MLC Padalkar said.

Munde dismissed Padalkar’s claims that Pawar has oppressed the “Bahujan” people in Maharashtra. He said that the NCP chief has changed the lives of the community members for the better and has implemented various welfare scheme for the OBCs.

Jitendra Awhad, cabinet minister for Housing, accused Padalkar of being a political turncoat. “Padalkar has no capacity to attack Pawar in such derogatory terms. He went to BJP and got a ticket. Before that, he begged to join NCP and abused Narendra Modi,” Awhad said.

Moreover, Maharashtra Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik also slammed Padalkar over his remarks and said that such statements should not be taken seriously.

Another NCP spokesperson Clyde Crasto took to Twitter and posted a cartoon which showed Padalkar (the puppet) being controlled by the BJP’s symbol of lotus (the puppet master).
