Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC Gopichand Padalkar on Wednesday lashed out at Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar over the issue of pending demand for reservation to Dhangar community calling him “coronavirus” which has infected Maharashtra.

Padalkar accused Pawar of ignoring the demands of Dhangar community for reservation quota claiming that the NCP chief wanted to politicise the issue for his personal gain. The Uddhav Thackeray government has not given any money for the upliftment of the Dhangar community, the BJP leader said.

While addressing a press conference at Pandharpur in Solapur district, Padalkar alleged that Bahujan samaj has been always suffered due to Pawar’s politics. The BJP leader himself hails from the Dhangar community.

“Sharad Pawar is coronavirus for Maharashtra. He has been leading the state for several years but has only oppressed people from the backward classes and will continue to do so in the future. I don’t think that he will be positive about the demand of reservation for the Dhangar community,” the BJP MLC asserted.

Padalkar went on to say that the Devendra Fadnavis government had announced a package worth ₹1,000 crores for the Dhangar community but the current MVA government has not given a single penny from that package.

“The package announced by the previous government could not be implemented as Devendra Fadnavis was made to give up power due to backstabbing,” he said while warning of a statewide agitation over various demands of the Dhangar community.

Padalkar also slammed the ruling MVA government for its double standards on the issue of reservation quota for different communities.

Meanwhile, The sub-committee headed by Maharashtra Minister Ashok Chavan on Tuesday discussed and reviewed its preparations to defend the reservation in the next hearing of the Supreme Court on Maratha reservation.
