Nationalist Congress party MLC of Thane, Niranjan Davkhare joined Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at BJP’s office. On Wednesday, he submitted his resignation as a member of the Legislative Council to Council chairman Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar and quit the party. As per political analysts, Davkhare’s resignation is considered as a big blow to NCP, especially in Thane. A Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elected from the Konkan Graduates constituency in 2012, Davkhare’s term was ending in July.

Talking about leaving a party, he said

A local group in the party acted against the Davakhare family during the Thane municipal council elections in 2017. At that time we had taken this matter to the party leadership; however, the other group was spared disciplinary action. This internal politics of side-lining is still continuing at the local level, so I did not have any other option but to leave the party.”

Davkhare's supporters will now follow BJP

There is a section of people who adore and follow late Vasant Davkhare in Palghar and Thane. Post Niranjan Davkhare’s resignation, there is a huge possibility that these very supporters will start following BJP party. As far as BJP is concerned, it is being said that the party has got a young face to lead in Thane city.
