Since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government moved a confidence motion in favour of the Vidhan Sabha speaker Haribhau Bagde, the house has been adjourned twice due to the uproar created by the opposition parties.

The opposition had blamed the ruling government for working against the traditions of the house and democracy. The opposition said that there was no discussion regarding the proposed no-trust resolutions against the speaker and the ruling government rejected the same by moving a confidence motion.

Earlier, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that, in 2006, former Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh had also passed a confidence motion.

To this, the opposition replied that the resolution passed by the ruling government at that time was in favour of the cabinet and not solely to protect the speaker. Thus, it cannot be compared with the present situation.

INC leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, former speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Dilip Walse Patil also spoke against the ruling government over this matter.

However, CM and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Girish Bapat denied the opposition’s allegation and said that this government is working under the rules.

This led to a huge uproar in the assembly and the house was adjourned twice. Initially for 10 minutes and after that, for half an hour.
