BJP leader and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have made a serious allegation that over INR 400 crore worth funds are being collected under the National Health Mission initiative implemented by the Government of India.

In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Fadnavis said that certain officials were collecting bribe under the provision of providing permanent appointments in the National Health Mission (NHM) initiative. He further said that over INR one lakh is being collected as funds, and proved the same by submitting three audio files whereby some people are heard demanding the same.

The state currently has more than 20,000 contractual workers under the National Health Mission and the scheme is implemented for the benefit of the country. The state government has been asked to act on the same.

PTI published the report quoting the letter, where Fadnavis said, "Many people have taken a loan to pay the bribe so that they can get a permanent job. I am sending three audio clips along with my letter where the alleged conversations of bribe are recorded. If one such mission is mired in such corrupt practices, one can imagine how much corruption is going on in various sectors of the state health department."

He has asked the state government to take strict action against officers who are involved in the corruption

As per reports, the process of appointment of candidates is done by the state government, and the same is being done by exchanging money. It is said that the process, over the last few weeks, gained tremendous momentum. The better stated that the audio clip shared by Fadnavis also included names of people who might have borrowed the money or hinted the same.

Special bank accounts have also been opened for this purpose, and if true, this poses as a serious matter whereby transactions of heavy sum could raise concerns for the government. "If one such mission is mired in such corrupt practices, one can imagine how much corruption is going on in various sectors of the state health department," the letter added.
