Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday rubbished the claims of lockdown extension and said that it will not be reimposed. The lockdown 5.0 or as the central government calls it ‘Unlock 1.0’ will end on June 30.

Therefore, the Prime Minister has asked all states and union territories to prepare for Unlock 2.0 and has asked the Chief Minister of all states to come up with a plan for it while keeping in mind the challenges to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

During his interaction with Chief Ministers via video conferencing, Modi urged them to fight the rumours regarding lockdown. He was talking to the CMs to decide on the strategy to fight COVID-19 outbreak.

Modi said that there was a need to focus on phase II of unlocking and also strategise on minimising the possibility of trouble to citizens from the coronavirus. The economy will open more if the coronavirus is stopped, he added while pointing out that containing COVID-19 will also bring new employment opportunities as the markets will be opened up.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray informed Modi that Maharashtra was carrying out aggressive sample testing and tracing new COVID-19 cases. The state has initiated ‘chase the virus’ program, he said.

Thackeray urged the central government to provide additional ventilators and other health equipment for the state. He informed that Maharashtra has 10 lakh masks, five lakh Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits and 3,028 ventilators.

“However, they are not enough and the state urgently requires more ventilators especially for the rural areas in Maharashtra in the wake of the rising cases of COVID-19,” he said.

Furthermore, the Maharashtra CM said that his government has provided relaxation under ‘Mission Begin Again’ in the state while expressing gratitude towards the centre for allowing the resumption of Mumbai’s local train for essential service employees.
