Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha and Maharashtra assembly polls, the “like-minded” parties decided to get together against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra. However, the alliance seems to be unstable as Samajwadi Party on Wednesday decided to ‘go solo’.

During the meeting of party executives, SP decided to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls alone in Maharashtra. Of the 48 LS seats in the state, SP will contest from 10 seats. The meeting took place at SP’s office in Ballard Pier in the presence of District Ward and Taluka presidents across the state.

After the meeting, SP leader Abu Azmi informed Congress-NCP regarding the party’s decision. “It was decided that Congress-NCP along with other political parties will contest elections to keep away the re-emerging forces from power. However, this is not happening,” Azmi said while withdrawing from the alliance.

A senior Congress leader informed that they are willing to grant SP some sears in the upcoming state assembly elections but not in the LS polls.
