For the first time ever, Shiv Sena has appointed a single leader as an in-charge of both the houses of Parliament – Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut was appointed as the party’s parliamentary leader after party chief Uddhav Thackeray notified Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan through a letter.
Ahead of Maharashtra Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, this decision comes amid speculations that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been trying to lure some Shiv Sena MPs.

Shiv Sena comprises of 18 MPs in Lok Sabha and three in Rajya Sabha and with Sena’s decision to contest the upcoming polls alone next year, the appointment of Raut will give Sena a bird's eye view on the activities of MPs in Parliament.
Earlier, Anandrao Adsul held the position of Lok Sabha Parliamentary leader. However, now every responsibility including that of the whip will be under Raut. As the newly appointed in charge of both houses, Raut, will coordinate with the members of both houses and observe their movements closely.
