Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Sunil Prabhu has approached the Supreme Court seeking direction to the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker to expeditiously decide the disqualification petitions against rebel Shiv Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde. The petitions were pending for almost a year.

In its May 11 judgement, the top court had asked the speaker to decide the pending disqualification petitions in due course. But, Prabhu says that so far no action has been taken in this regard. He also said that he has given three representations on this subject, which did not yield any result.

In his petition, Sunil Prabhu said that though the Supreme Court in its May 11 judgement had asked the Speaker to decide the pending disqualification petitions within a reasonable period, no action has been taken in this regard. He said that he has already submitted three memorandums to the Speaker, but to no avail.

The Mahavikas Aghadi government fell last year after Eknath Shinde rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray. The move resulted in a split in the Shiv Sena. Eknath Shinde became the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis became his Deputy Chief Minister.

The new petition filed by Sunil Prabhu comes days after NCP leader Ajit Pawar and eight MLAs, including Praful Patel and Chhagan Bhujbal, joined the Shinde-Fadnavis government in a shocking development.
