Shiv Sena Deputy Leader Neelam Gorhe files nomination papers for MLC election

Gorhe filed her nomination paper along with Uddhav Thackeray who filed his nomination as well and was accompanied at Vidhan Bhavan by other Shiv Sena leaders including Subhash Desai, Sanjay Raut, Eknath Shinde.

Shiv Sena Deputy leader and Deputy Chairman of Maharashtra Legislative Council, Neelam Gorhe on Monday filed her nomination papers for the MLC elections along with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. 

Gorhe has been a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council for three terms in the year 2002, 2008 and 2014. This will be the fourth consecutive term for Gorhe to severe as an MLC. 

Senior Shiv Sena leader Neelam Gorhe became the first woman chief whip in the history of the Maharashtra Legislative council after her party appointed her for the same in 2015. She was appointed as Shiv Sena’s first lady spokesperson in 2007. 

In her authority as an MLC, Gorhe has held discussions on women issues which has resulted in government to bring an act like Disha Act of Andhra Pradesh to curb the crime against women. Earlier, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had informed that the state will bring a law like Disha Act to combat the problems faced by women. 

Shiv Sena earlier finalised the candidature of Uddhav Thackeray and re-appointed Neelam Gorhe for the MLC polls scheduled to be held on May 21. Since the MVA is contesting on five seats out of nine, the contestants are set to be elected to the legislative council unopposed. 

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is in the opposition in Maharashtra is contesting elections to the legislative council on four seats. The saffron party earlier announced the candidature of Ranjitsinh Mohite Patil, Gopichand Padalkar, Ajit Gopchede and Praveen Datke.
